*The four major variations of Hold’em are distinguished from each other by their betting limits: Limit Texas Hold’em: There is a pre-determined betting limit on each round of betting. No Limit Texas Hold’em: A player can bet any amount, up to all of their chips. Pot Limit Texas Hold’em: A player can bet any amount, up to the size of the pot.
*In order to start betting in Hold’em, forced bets (known as blinds) are made by the two players immediately clockwise from the dealer button. The person immediately clockwise from the dealer has the small blind, and the next player clockwise has the big blind. Making blind bets is known as posting and this is done before any cards are dealt.
In a game of poker each player deals a complete hand in turn. The deal moves in a clockwise direction. Once a hand is completed the deal always passes to the player to the dealer’s left. Strengths of Ace-King in Texas Hold’em. When it hits the flop, it hits hard – When an Ace or a King hits the flop, you are far ahead of your opponent’s range as you have top pair and top kicker. If you have suited AK and flop two cards in your suit without a pair, you have two over cards to.

Texas hold’em players have a common saying about pre-flop strategy: If your hand is good enough to call with, it’s good enough to raise with.
This philosophy alludes to how you should come into pots aggressively. Raising pre-flop shows strength to other opponents and sets you up for another potential bet/raise after the flop (a.k.a. continuation bet).
Of course, you need to be selective when making pre-flop raises; otherwise, you’ll be spewing chips. And knowing a few crucial factors will help greatly in this department.
Keep reading as I cover the most important aspects regarding Texas hold’em pre-flop raising, including goals, table position, hand strength, bet sizing, knowing opponents, table size, and cash games vs. tournaments. Why Should You Normally Consider Raising Pre-Flop?
Poker is always more fun when you get to see the flop because this gives you more action and extra chances to make great hands.
This is why many new poker players call the big blind (a.k.a. limping) instead of raising. Limping into pots is the cheapest way to see the flop.
But limping is also one of the worst plays in poker because it shows little strength in your hand. Furthermore, you can easily be raised by an opponent acting after you.
You especially want to avoid open limping, where you open the pre-flop betting action by calling the big blind. In addition to showing little hand strength, you also can’t take down the pot right away by calling.
Another problem with limping is that you make things easier on your opponents. They can either call behind you to see the flop for cheap or raise and put you in a difficult position.
One more downside to limping is that more players can see the flop cheaply. This gives you less pot equity, or the odds that you’ll have the best hand.
Of course, like anything else with Texas hold’em, there are exceptions when calling the big blind that can work. One example is when there are other limpers at the table whom you can outplay post-flop.
But generally speaking, you want to enter pots with a raise, or at least calling another player’s raise. The key is to look aggressive from the outset so that you deter other players from raising while representing strong cards.Pre-Flop Raising Can Accomplish Multiple Goals
One of the most important things behind raising pre-flop is to have a plan. Furthermore, you want to accomplish specific goals with your raise.
Sometimes your pre-flop raise will check off multiple objectives. Other times, you may be raising with the single goal of stealing the blinds.
Below are some of the most important goals that you can accomplish with a pre-flop raise.Fold Equity
Raising indicates to opponents that you have a good hand, thus increasing the chances that they’ll fold marginal cards. And this is where your fold equity comes from.
Another good thing about fold equity is that it allows you to steal pots even when you don’t improve on the flop. Of course, you should keep the pot small in these situations in case an opponent calls or re-raises.Pot Equity
Having the best hand gives you the most equity in the pot. And you want to build the pot as much as possible when you think that you’re in the lead.Isolating a Single Opponent
Earlier, I mentioned that raising prevents multiple players from seeing the flop and reducing your pot equity. Ideally, you’ll isolate a single player when raising with a strong hand.
Pocket aces, kings, or queens offer a much stronger chance to win when you’re only facing a single opponent. The goal here is to raise just enough to where only one player will call.Table Position Is a Crucial Factor
Many beginning poker players focus too much on their hand strength when deciding whether to raise. You also need to strongly consider your table position before raising.
Here are the table positions based on a 9-handed game.
*Early position – Small blind, big blind, seat to big blind’s left (i.e., under the gun or “UTG”)
*Middle position – 3 seats to the left of UTG
*Late position – Dealer (a.k.a. button), seat to dealer’s right (a.k.a. cut-off), and seat to cut-off’s right
Acting earlier in a hand means that you’ll have less information on opponents. Therefore, a pre-flop raise from early position means that you’re acting before an opponent(s) post-flop.
The general idea is to widen the number of hands you raise with in later seats. This lets you better judge an opponent’s hand strength after the flop.
Here’s an example.
*A tight-aggressive player from middle position raises 3x big blind (bb)
*You’re in the cut-off with pocket 10s
*You re-raise them
*They call
*The flop comes out Qs-Jh-3d
*They make a pot-sized raise into a board with overpair potential. You fold because you’re likely beaten
Assuming you were acting in early position post-flop, you’d be left checking and giving the opponent a greenlight to steal. Or you might even bet to steal the pot, only to be called or raised.
But being in position allows you to see that your opponent likely has a better hand and to fold without losing additional money. What Hands Are Good for Raising Pre-Flop?
No two poker games are exactly the same, and there’s no uniform way to play every hand in each situation. But there are some generalities that work with certain hands.
One example is when you have a premium pocket pair in a pot where nobody has raised. Outside of rare limp/re-raise opportunities, you should almost always raise in this situation.
For the most part, though, you want to use specific situations to decide when you do and don’t raise. Here’s advice for playing different pre-flop hands in a full-ring game, based on your table position and the actions before you.
*AA and KK – Raise in every situation from any table position. If somebody raises you, re-raise (a.k.a. 3-bet) them.
*QQ – Raise in every situation from any table position. If somebody raises you, be willing to call up to 20xbb or 25xbb.
*AK – Raise in every situation from any table position. Fold if anybody re-raises you.
*JJ – Raise in every situation, except when somebody has raised before you (call 20xbb). Also, call up to 20xbb if somebody re-raises you.
*TT and 99 – Fold in early position, but raise from any other spot in unopened pots. Call up to 20xbb if somebody raises beforehand or re-raises you.
*88 through 22 – Fold in early position, call in the blinds and middle position, and raise from late position in unopened pots. Call (20xbb) in other situations, including when loose-aggressive players raise, since you have position.
*AQ through AT offsuit – Fold in early position and when anybody raises or re-raises you. Raise in unopened pots from middle position, late position, and the blinds. Call from middle position and the blinds if there are other limpers.
*A9 through A2 suited – Fold in early position and when anybody raises the pot or re-raises you. Raise in unopened pots from middle position, late position, and the blinds. Call from the blinds if there are other limpers.
*KQ, KJ, KT, QJ, QT, JT unsuited – Fold in early and middle position. Raise in late position and from the blinds in unopened pots, but call from these same positions if there are other limpers.
*JT through 54 suited – Fold in early and middle position. Raise from late position in unopened pots, but call from middle and late position if there are other limpers.
*Any other cards – Fold/check in every situation.
Again, there are exceptions to any hand based on your opponents and the overall table dynamic. But this guide will get you started when figuring out how to play hands pre-flop.Bet Sizing with Pre-Flop Raises
Bet sizing is another area of pre-flop play that varies based on the situation. But a good guideline is to enter pre-flop pots with a 3xbb or 4xbb raise.
The goal is to bet enough to where most players will be deterred from calling, while isolating a single player. Anything less than 3xbb usually draws multiple callers and defeats the purpose of raising pre-flop in the first place.
Sometimes you’ll find that even a 3-4xbb pre-flop raise doesn’t discourage players from calling. This is especially the case in the micro stakes, where low blind sizes encourage more players to see the flop.
In these situations, you’ll need to consider entering pots with a 5xbb raise or higher. This is something that you’ll just have to feel out after playing some hands and studying the table dynamic.Study Opponents Before Raising Pre-Flop
Knowing individual opponents is crucial to making good pre-flop raises because it helps you better accomplish your raising goals.
Here’s an example.
*You have AJ on the button, and everybody has folded
*Normally you’d raise in this situation
*But both blinds are major calling stations and bad post-flop players
*You instead limp in while looking to outplay your opponents post-flop
You should stick with the pre-flop hand advice discussed before when coming onto a new table. But also watch for opportunities to break out of ABC poker based on whom you’re playing against.
Keep in mind that reading opponents and adjusting your pre-flop raising strategy accordingly requires experience. The last thing you want to do is burn through chips by making fancy moves against players that you don’t have any info on.Table Size Affects Pre-Flop Raising
The pre-flop hand advice that I covered before works as a general guideline for 9- and 10-player tables. But when you’re playing with 6 people (6-max) or fewer, you need to open up your starting hand requirements.
One reason why is because winning hands aren’t as strong on average due to fewer players. Secondly, you’ll see the blinds more often per hour, and you don’t want to miss out on extra opportunities to win money and cover these blinds.
How wide you increase your starting hand selection depends upon the number of players at your table.
In a 6-max game, you could open your early position raising range to include 9s, 8s, and AQ. At a 3-handed table, you can even add 7s, 6s, AJ, offsuit, ATo, A9 suited, and A8s to this range.
The general rule of thumb is that you need to expand the number of hands you’re willing to raise with on a short-handed table. Likewise, you should be more selective in full-ring games because winning hands will be stronger.3-Betting Pre-Flop
A 3-bet is simply the third bet of a round. Here’s the basic sequence of how 3-betting works in pre-flop play:
*1st bet = Small and big blinds
*2nd bet = Open-raise
*3rd bet = Re-raise
3-bets have become more common in poker these days, as players look to turn up the aggression on their opponents. Unfortunately, this move is overused by players who blindly show aggression.
You should always have a plan when 3-betting pre-flop. The two reasons to use this play include 3-betting for value or for a bluff.
A value 3-bet means that you’re in the lead (e.g., with AA, KK, or QQ) and building the pot while isolating one player. The purpose of a bluff 3-bet is to steal the pot from an opponent who’s likely in the lead.
A good bet size, in either case, includes 2x to 3x the pot, depending upon the table dynamic, opponents, your cards, and your position.
If an opponent raises 3xbb (4.5bb in pot), you would re-raise them with between 9bb and 13bb.
I recommend sticking with value 3-bets until you can fully identify situations where bluff 3-bets can work. How many different hands are possible in texas holdem. Here are different things that you need to consider before bluffing with this play.
*Your opponents, including ones who’ll fold to a 3-bet in a specific situation
*What range of hands the open-raiser likes to play
*Knowing who’s likely to 4-bet
*Knowing what 4-bettors will have the nuts and which ones won’t
*Stack sizes (in tournaments), because shorter stacks are more likely to 3-bet to steal blinds
*Your table image and if opponents will think you actually have a strong hand
*Table position. You generally want to avoid 3-betting from out of position until you master hold’emCash Games vs. Tournaments
Another important distinction in pre-flop raising involves whether you’re playing a cash game or tournament.
The main reason for this distinction is that you have a finite number of chips in a tourney. Therefore, you can’t just reload when playing speculative hands that don’t work out.
Experienced tournament players usually have a tight pre-flop style. This keeps them from wasting blinds while chasing drawing hands with long odds.
Of course, you never want to play too many hands in cash games or tournaments. But the latter requires an even tighter style to avoid blowing your limited chips.
Texas hold’em tournament players are often very aggressive when they raise pre-flop, especially in the later stages of a tournament.
At this point, the blinds begin taking away a player’s chip stack. And you need to steal blinds and small pots to stay alive.
Cash game raising differs, though, because you’re always looking at plays that offer the maximum expected value.
Cash game players will rarely find it profitable to raise with pocket 3s in middle position. But tournament players are often forced to make decisions like this because of the rising blinds.
You’ll also find more opportunities to set mine with lower pocket pairs in cash games.
In contrast, it’s almost never a good idea to set mine in tourneys. You have a really low chance of actually flopping your set (11.8%), meaning that you’ll waste valuable chips chasing these draws.5 Common Texas Hold’Em Pre-Flop Mistakes
One more important topic I’d like to cover in this discussion is the most common pre-flop mistakes by Texas hold’em players.
Some of these blunders were covered to a degree beforehand. But it’s worth reiterating everything just so that you don’t fall victim to these mistakes.Mistake #1: Not Taking Your Position into Account When Raising
Poker players lose the most money when playing out of position. And while there are times when you do need to play in front of opponents, you should work to minimize these situations.
One of the worst things you can do out of position is make frequent raises. You leave yourself open to a large number of re-raising opportunities in these cases.
Even if you’re not re-raised, open-raising from early or even middle position puts you at a disadvantage post-flop. You should only open up the range of hands that you’re willing to raise with in later seats.Mistake #2: Raising with Too Many Hands on the Button
While late position gives you important information on opponents, don’t overvalue the button by raising too often.
Some players get overconfident on the button and open their raising range too wide. You can get away with this on passive tables, but you’ll eventually bleed out money by being too optimistic with your hand range.
Remember that just because you have position doesn’t mean a strong hand will automatically fold to your raises.Mistake #3: Raising Just to Mix Up Your Playing Style
It’s always nice to remain unpredictable to your opponents. But this can go too far when you’re making unconventional moves just to mix up your play. How Do Side Bets Work In Texas Holdem
Sure, you might throw off an open-raiser by flatting them with pocket kings, but chances are that you’re just giving away value by not 3-betting in this situation.
As you become more advanced, there’ll be situations where mixing up your playing style produces good results.
But you’re better off in the long run by making conventional pre-flop raises and re-raises, rather than worrying too much about mixing it up.Mistake #4: Raising Too Often with Offsuit Broadway Cards
If you’re going to chase a straight draw, there’s no better way to do it than with broadway cards. But you also can’t raise with broadway cards too often, especially when they’re not suited.
Suited connectors like JT often play better than KJ offsuit because your hand is unlikely to be dominated when you hit a flush or straight.
Meanwhile, the only thing you have to fall back on when your KJ combo doesn’t connect is a high pair. Kings could be dominated by aces, while jacks can be beaten by three different high pairs.Mistake #5: Failing to Have a Plan
As I touched on before, you want a plan when raising before the flop. This is especially crucial when your raising goals don’t work out exactly as planned.
Here are some different factors to consider.
*What hands are you willing to open-raise with? 3-bet with?
*What will you do if an opponent 3-bets your opening raise?
*How will the player to your left react to a raise?
*When is it best to limp in or call another raise? Conclusion
A Texas hold’em hand features four streets, and it’s important to master each street on your way to becoming a great player.
But you should fully learn pre-flop play before anything else because this sets the tone for the entire hand.
Coming into pots aggressively with a raise shows strength and forces opponents into more-difficult decisions. It also gives you a chance to win the pot with the best cards, or by forcing your opponents to fold.
Again, consult the advice I gave on what hands are good for raising pre-flop. This will give you a reference point to work off of in the beginning.
But you should adjust your starting hand range as you learn your opponents and table dynamic. Also, keep in mind that the table size will play a large role in what cards you raise with.
The more Texas hold’em you play, the better you’ll be at making pre-flop raising adjustments.
Casinos are always looking for new games to offer bored gamblers. Over the last decade or 2, these games are more commonly related to poker than anything else. But games like these—including Scientific Gaming’s Ultimate Texas Holdem—are more akin to blackjack than to poker. In fact, dealing Ultimate Texas Holdem is considered dealing a nove

The incomplete hand is focused on the community cards which are dealt in the center of the table. These community cards need to be played into their hand to form winning cards. Texas Hold’em is one of the popular community draw poker games.Land Based Poker vs. Online Poker

The differences you might note is that it is easier to learn how to play poker online than it is playing at a land-based establishment. This is mainly thanks to free poker games which are exclusive to online gambling and highly unlikely to be available at land-based casinos.
Another difference you may note is that while land-based poker players interact with one another, live poker is also just as interactive, however not entirely the same. But if you feel you need some convincing, here are only some of the benefits of playing the game online.
*Control adjustment of betting limits

So you have chosen to give this a go and now you want to get started so that you can quickly succeed and play one of the most popular card games to date. Before we help you get started, you should know the most popular variant of poker is Texas Hold’em.
The game is played internationally, as well as at the WSOP – the most prestigious poker event in the industry. For this reason, we will base all of poker strategies and rules on Texas Hold’em.Getting into a Game
With a land-based establishment, you would walk in and sit at an open table, placing your bets as you do. Online casino gaming however, this requires you to sign up with a trusted site and place your bets accordingly. The first step to a great gaming experience is to find an online casino well-equipped with a number of poker variants, one which is fully licensed and regulated, and preferably with a great sign up bonus.
One of the features to look for when choosing a poker game is the wager type:
*No Limit: This means of betting allows you to place a bet as high as you like and is also currently the most preferred method of turning the poker odds into your favor.
*Limit: As you can imagine, this method is limited to the coin or wager amount instructed by the game.
*Pot Limit: This is where you have a choice of how much you would like to bet by all players which determines the pot amount.
Once you have decided which you would prefer to play, you will need to determine how much you are willing to wager on the game and decide if your bankroll can afford the wagering stakes.Preparing for Your First Online Poker Game
Now you are ready to sign up to an online casino and deposit funds into your online casino account to begin your online poker journey. Once you have completed this by following the easy steps dictated by the online casino, you’ll then navigate to your preferred poker game. Now, this is where the fun starts and you’ll need to bring your A-game in order to have the best chance of winning some money.
A good poker strategy means you need to make sets of cards coupled according to their suit, value and/or rank. A ‘good’ hand consists of a pair (two of the same) and cards running in sequence like from four through five to six.
When you join in on a no limit Texas Hold’em game; the first two players are required to place bets to fill the pot. These two bets are known as the ‘blinds’ and are placed by the first two players on the left-hand side of the dealer – online poker refers to this as ‘the button’.
The player next to the dealer would be the small blind while the one next to him would be the big blind.Playing Texas Hold’em
You are now dealt with two cards face down and you aren’t sure if they are good enough. Online casino gaming allows you the option of finding a guide to good starting hands, but if you cannot find one look at your hand and try to make pairs, the higher the value the better the hand.
Now is when the betting starts and this is based on the position you are sat in at the table. The further down the line you are, the more opportunity you have to gauge what your opponents have based on how they bet. Once it is your turn, poker rules dictate you either fold, call or raise, all of which mean:
*Fold – Giving up and skipping the round due to a bad hand or no longer wanting to place cash wagers.
*Call – Whatever the bet amount is on, you or the other players will need to match the bets placed.
*Raise – Up the bet placed by raising the bet total.
When it comes to your turn, you will need to decide how good your hand is based on other players folding and raising and whether or not you are prepared to match the increased bet based on the two cards you have been dealt with.Identifying a Winning Hand
When the time comes, and it will, you will want to know the right poker strategies for a winning hand. Below they are listed according to their ranks, the first mentioned being the strongest while the last is the weakest, but a winning hand nevertheless:
Straight Flush
This hand is 5 cards from one suit. The best of this hand is a Royal Flush, the highest cards in the pack from Ace, King, Queen, Jack and ten.
Four of a Kind
This is a hand with 4 of the same numbers or royal numbers. The higher the ranking, the better the hand.
Full House
This is 3 cards of the same and one pair.
Flush
The hand is 5 cards, any kind, of the same suit.
Straight
This is 5 cards of different suits but all running in sequence.
Three of a Kind
Of the same rank but different suits.
Two Pair
Two cards of the same rank and another two cards of another rank.
One Pair How many different hands are possible in texas holdem.
Only one set of two cards of the same rank.
High Card
When you haven’t made any of the above, the hand with the highest card will win the hand. When to Bet and Fold: Playing the Pre-Flop
So you may be wondering what the pre-flop is and we will get to that, but what you need to know is that this is important and will determine how you choose to proceed with making your first bet.
A pre-flop is what is referred to before the flop, after all players have been dealt with their cards and the blinds have been wagered. Just before the flop is dealt, the first three cards to be dealt in the center of the table, facing upward, the first bets are placed.
When and if you decide to play on, you will need to take into consideration the poker odds of winning, how much the pot is worth based on your hand and how aggressively you should wager based on your position at the table. This will allow you to determine how and if you would like to proceed with the flop. After the Flop and Later Rounds
Next up is addressing the later stages, the rounds after the flop has taken place and you are in the game. Once the flop has been played and the three cards have been dealt face upwards the next round begins. Paying from the left of the button you will be required to fold, raise or call the bet.
If you look at your hand and you have a strong hand such as three of a kind you should either call or raise the bet. After you and the other players have gotten all bets in, the round is concluded and the fourth community card is placed on the table.
Texas Hold’em is a five card draw. The community cards are dealt in 5, after the fourth card has been played the final card, referred to as the ‘river’ is then played. Although there are 7 cards, 2 in your hand and 5 facing upward on the table, the best 5 cards win.
After the last card has been dealt, the last round of betting begins. When you first begin to learn how to play poker, you may fear all the terms are too much to initially grasp, however, the more you play, the more you will begin to see these patterns and become better acquainted with winning sequences.
After the final round has commenced and betting has been concluded, players will then need to show their hands to determine the winner. The last player to have bet on the river or raised the stakes is the first to reveal their cards.Online Poker Australia LegalOnline Poker Strategy Tips

Last week, an amendment to revise Australia’s online gambling laws passed the Australian Senate. An exemption was attempted for online poker but that failed. The bill now moves on the country’s House of Representatives, which is widely expected to vote for the legislation.
This means that within a few months, that online poker will effectively be restricted in the country. For Australian players, this means that it will be more difficult to play online poker. Players will no longer have access to many of the world’s most popular poker rooms (like PokerStars), but instead a selection of less regulated -- but often underrated -- poker rooms.
If this sounds like of familiar, it’s the same thing that Americans have had to deal with since the UIGEA famously passed in in 2006 and to a larger extent, after the events of Black Friday in 2011What Happened?
Before we explain what happened last week, let’s back up. In 2001, the Australian government attempting to restrict online poker by passing the Interactive Gaming Act. However, just as America’s Wire Act wasn’t enough to cover online poker, there were loopholes which allowed many top operators to continue to operate in Australia comfortably.
This week, the Interactive Gaming Amendment Bill 2016 was passed to revise the language of the 2001 bill and other related laws. Even though it’s not officially law right now, the passage is all but inevitable -- something that is evident by the poker rooms leaving the market as it just has to pass the Australian House the Representatives.
While the law looks destined to pass, Senator David Leyonhjelm is working on presenting a Committee inquiry to have the law amended (again). Leyonhjelm was a leading opponent of an online poker exemption and critical of efforts to amend the law.

What Can Australians Expect Next?
Over the last few months, a handful of poker rooms have left the Australian market, notably 888 earlier this year. Some online poker rooms had left the market over the last few years, such as William Hill. PokerStars, the largest online poker site in the world, has it made it known that they intend to comply with the law, likely no latter than when it’s finally passed. Party Poker is another poker room that is expected to leave the market some time in the next few months.
Where Can Australians Still Play?
It is expected that most major European-based poker rooms will stop servicing Australian players soon if they haven’t already.
Looking at the example in the United States is likely a fair comparison here, as these poker rooms are the most likely to continue to offer games. At the moment, US players are effectively limited to Ignition Poker, the Winning Poker Network, the Chico Network, Merge Gaming and the Horizon Network.
Ignition and Merge are out because they already do not accept Australians. We reached out to BetOnline (which is on Chico), Americas Cardroom (WPN) and Intertops (Horizon) to see if they intended to continue offering games to Australians. Only Americas Cardroom indicated they would with other poker rooms providing no comment.Likely Australian Online Poker Options (after ban)Poker RoomPeak Traffic SizeNotesAmericas Cardroom (WPN) - Bonus Code: RBN1700 real money playershighest traffic, fast cashouts, above average promotionsBetOnline (Chico)1200 real money playersfast payouts, large bonus, good gamesIntertops (Horizon)135 real money playersReputable room, low traffic, good promotions
So these sites will offer games, but can players really trust them? The answer may surprise you. Even though these sites will apparently going against the will of the new amendment, some have a surprisingly good track record. Over the past decade since the United States first major online poker crackdown there are a handful of sites that have survived, and even thrived, while accepting U.S. players. Many of the scam poker rooms have come and went (hopefully to never be seen again). But to make it this far for more than a decade, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario where these types of rooms fail now.
So what does a successful poker room look like? It’s a site with decent to good traffic, one that respects poker players and has a good track record of paying players on time. Virtually all U.S. facing poker rooms meet this description, certainly Winning Poker Network and Chico, at the very least. Although there likely will be some poker rooms perfectly willing to ignore the new law, there may be other hurdles. The Australian Communications and Media Authority will now have the power to create a blacklist and impose civil penalties. While the threat of these actions still may not deter operators, ISP blocking is also an option for enforcement, which would effectively cut off the market save for VPN usage (which is not recommended). What Should You Do?
Even if you make the decision to continue playing online poker from Australia, virtually everyone will agree this is not an ideal environment in which to play. This is why individual states in America are consistent trying to pass new legislation that allows Americans to play.

In case you don’t already know, poker is a game of maximizing wins (when you have the best hand) and minimizing loss (when you don’t have the best hand).
If I recorded the last 100 times I had pocket aces, I would probably find that they won the pot around 60% of the time.
Another bet is available (similar to the Pairplus in Three Card Poker), based only on the player’s four card hand, called the Aces Up. Seven pay tables are available as indicated below. The only one I know of to be actually used is pay table 5. How to Play 5-Card Draw Poker. If you have played any other form of poker, 5-card draw rules are similar in that the aim of the game is to make the best five-card poker hand.
It is highly beneficial if you can find a hand that holds up that frequently. But the number of times it won is somewhat irrelevant.
What is relevant is how much I won or lost with them.

I recall one particular night where an opponent encapsulated what I’m talking about.
He raised preflop from a middle position and I called in a late position with QJ.
The flop came .
He bet and I raised. I just wanted to test him out a bit.
He thought for a moment, then called.
On the turn, a fell and he checked, so I checked behind him.
On the river, a fell which may have completed a straight draw (if I had it).
We both checked the river and he had . In total, he won 4 small bets from me with pocket aces when he was a fairly large favourite. 5 Aces Property Services
He simply put the handbrake on too easily.Pocket Aces — Again
Later that night, this same player was dealt a pair of aces — again.
He raised preflop and three players called. The flop came .
After the bet, the pot was raised and then re-raised. He then proceeded to check and call them the whole way, even after the turn was a and the river was a repeat 10.
By the action on the flop and turn, it was obvious that a pair of aces had almost no chance of winning the pot. Free bonus bingo. How Much Has He Won / Lost?

In the long term, I look at the profitability of my pocket aces rather than the number of times they win or lose.
To maximize profit with them, I make a conscious effort to minimize my losses when I am clearly going to lose a showdown.
At the end of the day, if I lose less with AA, my profit on them will be much greater.
I wish to quickly discuss a few techniques you can use to determine whether it’s time to fold pocket aces.Define Your Hand Early
(Do it when it’s still cheap to do so)
Here is a pot which came up the other night.
I was against a fairly tight player who knows exactly what he was doing when it comes to Texas hold’em.
Let’s call him ’X’.
Before the flop, X raised from a middle-late position after everyone folded.
I put X on a steal with a mediocre hand like A-9 or perhaps KJ.
A loose player between us called and I reraised on the button with AA. Both players called.
The flop came Q-10-2. X checked, the loose player bet, and I raised.
X then re-raised. The loose player and I both called.
On the turn, a 7 fell and X came out betting. The loose player called and I folded. Why Did I Fold?
Now many may think that this was a fairly big lay down on my part, but it really wasn’t.
I knew X well and I knew that he would definitely put me on either KK or AA on the flop.
By raising the flop and defining my hand on these early betting rounds, I forced him out of his shell.
Some players think of slow-playing aces in this situation and get a raise in on the turn.
I think you need to work out how your aces fair on the flop when it is cheap. Raise and re-raise until your opponent defines his hand.
When he bet into me on the turn (out of position), he was clearly unconcerned if I raised him.
Even if X had KK in that hand, he would have played it differently. So I was sure that my aces were beat.
The trick was, I knew my opponent and gathered all the necessary information I needed on the flop when the bets were small.

This is a good habit to get into.Practice Poker Online (Free)

A few nights later, I had AA and two opponents called me all the way.
In that pot, I won 6 small bets and 4 large bets when my cards were good.
In the pot above, I lost 6 small.
Overall, I won once and lost once with pocket aces for a total profit of 4 large bets.
If, in the above pot, I decided to call X on the turn and river, I would be only 2 large bets in profit overall. Over the long term, that difference is significant.

I want to share with you some more tips on how to play pocket aces.
If you have AA in a four-handed pot and the flop is J-10-9, you shouldn’t bet.
I personally find that it is better to check this flop with AA, even if you are in a late position and it has been checked around to you.
It is difficult to expect anyone to fold any sort of draw (even a gutshot) on this particular flop. Further, when you bet, they are correct in calling you.
By checking this flop, you are achieving two goals.
*
First, you avoid wasting bets when your opponents draw out on you on the turn. Let’s say the turn is an 8 and there is a bet and a raise in front of you.
You can comfortably fold your aces and it only ended up costing you one preflop raise in total. Don’t overlook the fact that you may have avoided a check-raise by doing this.
*
The second goal is that you are manipulating the size of the pot to swing it into your favour on the turn. Let’s say you check this flop behind your opponents and the turn is 4.
Now I am hoping that a late position player to right comes out betting so that I can raise.
Because I kept the pot small on the flop, I have made it catastrophic for other opponents to call with a straight draw on the turn.
On the turn, a player holding an 8 or queen is 4.75-1 against winning the pot on the river.
If this was $10-$20, there would be $80 in the pot if I checked the flop.
If a player bet and I raised on the turn, a player with an 8 or a queen would be getting pot odds or 120-40 or 3-1.
Thus, a player with a draw will be taking the worst of it if he calls my turn raise.
Odds aside, a raise usually forces most draws out on the turn in this situation anyway.
I am hoping that the bettor has a pair of jacks with a good kicker, which leaves me with a good chance of winning the showdown. Rocks or Timid Players
Whether you are in the pot with a timid player or the Rock of Gibraltar, you have to be very wary if they start raising you.
Both hard rocks and timid players share one common characteristic:
they refuse to commit a lot of money unless they can beat extremely strong hands.
I’ll show you two pots I played: one badly and one well. The Bad Play
In the first one, I had pocket aces and was called by an extreme rock.
The flop came K-7-3. I got down on my knees and prayed that he had AK.
But after several raises on the flop, he had me scratching my head.
On the turn, I decided to bet into him again. Again he raised. I called that raise and called a bet on the river.
He turned out 7-7. I lost a fair few bets in that pot when I should have realized that the rock is raising me even after I’ve played by aces very obviously. The Good Play
The other one was where I was in a pot with a player who was relatively new to the game.
While he always saw the flop, he virtually never called a bet on the flop (a perfect opponent) unless his hand was massive.
In this hand, he called my raise in a late position.5 Aces Property Services Myrtle Beach
The flop came 9-5-4. I bet, a player next to me raised and then this timid player re-raised both of us.
My aces flew into the muck faster than bullets, if you’ll forgive the pun. On that occasion, I was 100% correct to do so.

As soon as real money is at stake, the game of poker transforms.
Play money poker involves seeing a flop, hitting hands and never folding when there is even a shot at winning the pot. With no incentive to fold or think strategically, it provides light entertainment at best.
Once real cash is involved, poker changes into a mental battle. Playing every hand and trying to hit, will quickly become a losing strategy.
Conversely, playing too few hands becomes predictable and easy to exploit. You’ll need to play a position, work out what your opponents’ bets mean and understand math concepts like odds and equity.
You can play online poker games for real money or for free. I can assure you that once you try for real money, free games will quickly lose its appeal. The beauty of real money poker is that you’ll never stop learning.
Even the biggest stars of the game are working on their strategy; poker takes five minutes to learn and a lifetime to master. Is online poker legal in the US?

So what should you consider when getting started with online poker? Some signs will easily show a poker site is safe and regulated. Here’s what to look for:1. Safe poker sites are licensed and regulated by states
In the US, there are six states currently set for legalized online poker:
West Virginia online poker was also legalized in 2018/2019 but has not gone live yet. All six states feature a completely legal and regulated market overseen by state government authorities.
Just like traditional retail casinos and poker rooms, reliable online poker sites face strict licensing and regulation. The sites can only operate in complete compliance and enforcement.2. Safe poker sites use proper technical security and geolocation
These regulations make your information and funds secure. Legal and licensed online casinos and poker sites have systems in place to offer numerous player protections that are required by state laws and regulations.
Geolocation software also makes sure all players are located within the legal jurisdiction. State regulators require this technology to keep the game safe from outside influences.
Another key security issue is the prevention of player collusion and gameplay issues like chip dumping. Each operator monitors gameplay in this way. Software monitoring commonly uncovers player collusion and discrepancies. It assures you of a safe and fair game of poker.3. Safe poker sites have proper deposit and cash out methods
Along with gameplay, safe online poker sites ensure your funds are secure. That goes likewise for the deposit and cash out process. Whether you fund your account through e-check, debit card or another form of payment (e.g., some poker sites now accept PayPal), the licensed poker site ensures your personal information, account and other information are secure.
Players who use offshore, illegal poker sites will not encounter measures as stringent and have no way to know if their funds and information are safe. They also have little to no recourse if their funds are confiscated or their account is closed.4. Safe poker sites have government oversight
Poker sites in legalized US states are regulated by laws and rules enforced by those states’ gaming commissions. This statute should give you a level of confidence in secure online poker rooms that don’t come with using unregulated poker sites.
In the legalized states that can offer online poker, the regulating bodies are:Nj Online Poker Tournaments
*Nevada Gaming Control Board
*New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement
*Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
*Delaware Division of Gaming Enforcement
*Michigan Gaming Control Board
*West Virginia Lottery Commission
The entities ensure that play is truly random through random number generators and that the game is fair for everyone playing. They also monitor to make sure payouts are made fairly and that operators follow proper and legal procedures.5. Safe poker sites have proper channels for customer service and disputes
The gaming regulators in each state offer recourse for those who may have a complaint or dispute. Reputable poker sites also provide customer service support for those looking to ask a question or have an issue resolved.
Most operators offer several means to contact customer service and support, including:
*An FAQ section
*User help database
*Email support
*Live chat
*Customer service phone numberHow do I know it’s a safe and trustworthy poker site?
There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting an online poker operator. Beyond state regulators and gaming commissions, some other factors can help ensure numerous player protections:
*State-Approved Partnerships: Each online poker operator must have a live casino partner in each state. Casinos must meet extensive regulations, and this adds to player safety. It also gives you a local, trusted brand.
*Reputable Companies: In addition, most companies offering online poker within each state are trusted and proven brands. Many are also public companies and not the fly-by-night operations one might find in the offshore, unregulated market.
*Approvals and Inspections: Each legal site has a seal or statement somewhere on the home page, which indicates it is a regulated site. For example, PokerStars NJ has a link to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. These sites are regularly inspected and monitored by these commissions.
*Mainstream Deposit and Cash Out Methods: Along with being regulated and having casinos in the jurisdiction as partners, trusted online poker sites use accepted, mainstream deposit and withdrawal methods. Those include PayPal, e-checks, bank transfers, e-wallets, and debit and credit cards, among other options. Some even allow deposits at a casino partner’s cashier cage. You can also expect quick turnarounds on withdrawals as well.
*Support and Customer Service: Reliable poker sites offer numerous ways to help with an issue or concern, from email and FAQ to live chat and a customer service phone number. Offshore operators might not provide this support.
*SSL Encryption: A critical focus in the security effort, secure sockets layer (SSL) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client. It helps keep your player information private and safe. How to download a safe online poker site and set up an account
Because of SSL and encryption technology, downloading a poker app or desktop-based poker client is exceptionally secure. The same goes for depositing and cashing out.
Unlike offshore and unregulated sites, legal online poker sites guarantee your funds are safe and secure. Trouble or long delays getting payouts are a common complaint about unregulated sites, but this is not an issue if you use regulated, secure and reliable poker sites as mentioned here.
Downloading is simple. Simply use any of the links above to get started, which will also allow you to take advantage of the listed free no deposit poker bonuses and the additional deposit match bonuses.
You then enter some necessary information like name, address, email, username and password. Once that’s complete, you may have to confirm your identity and email.Deposit and withdrawal methods at a legal online poker site
After getting an account set up, making a deposit is also a simple process. Reliable online poker sites offer several safe deposit methods, including:
*PayPal
*E-check bank payments (ACH transfers)
*Visa or Mastercard
*Wire payments
*E-wallets, such as Neteller and Skrill
*Cash at partner casinos
When cashing out your winnings, the process is safe and secure as well. You can receive your winnings back via the method you used to deposit.
Trusted poker sites offer fast and secure payouts through several options. Some offer a paper check option for payouts as well. Many even provide cash payouts from casino partners at the cashier cage.
What’s one thing you don’t have to worry about with a regulated site? Funds not being there or disappearing out of the blue.
Your funds are not intermingled with operator or casino funds at a secure, legal poker site. The money is held in separate accounts and available to you 24/7 so you can feel confident that your funds are safe. Millionaire casino slots. Are poker apps safe?
As online poker has grown, the use of mobile phones and tablets has become an even more popular way to play in the last several years. All major safe US poker sites offer mobile poker apps for iPhone/iPad and Android devices with excellent app interfaces .
Secure poker app providers include:
Poker apps provide the same security as desktop poker clients. Apps must still meet tight regulations from each jurisdiction’s gaming commission. Poker apps also include geolocation software to make sure every player is within the state offering legal online poker. How do I keep my poker account secure?
Regulated and reliable online poker sites offer a secure environment for signing up, depositing, cashing out and playing. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure that your online poker experience remains safe.
Here are a few security recommendations:Nj Online Poker Tournament Schedule
*Use proper security protocols when depositing.
*Be careful when playing on public Wi-Fi.
*Don’t share usernames or passwords with anyone.
*Make passwords challenging to figure out.
*Don’t leave a game open on a device or computer that’s unattended. How do I recognize an ‘unsafe’ poker site?
This question is good to keep in mind when jumping into online poker for the first time. Many offshore poker sites will not offer any regulatory information or display the legal sealof an appropriate governing body or regulatory commission.
They may also feature more obscure website addresses and not be a well-known brand. Offshore operators may also make use of less scrupulous deposit methods, which come with many security concerns.
Some unregulated poker sites make it challenging to find where they are based. It is a red flag as to the site’s legitimacy and security protocols. Your player funds may not be safe with these sites or using their deposit options.Nj Online Poker Tournaments 2020
You should never use a questionable deposit method. Also, transferring funds to players you don’t know can be sketchy. Look out for these types of scams on unregulated poker sites.Safest poker sites FAQ
After considering all these facts and concepts, here are some key ideas to remember:
What do I do if I think I’m playing on an unsafe poker site?
Research the site and determine if it’s a legitimate US poker site. If not, look for a legal option, including those mentioned in this guide. You may want to withdraw your funds from an offshore site and use a legitimate, secure option.
How do I know if a poker site is reputable?
Make sure it’s a legal US site by looking for signs that it’s licensed by a state regulating body. However, beware of imposters that may represent themselves as a legal option. When in doubt, contact your state gaming commission to see if the site falls under its jurisdiction.
Is it safe to play against players from other countries?
Legal US online poker uses “fenced-in” markets, and only players within specific states can play. Any site featuring players from other countries doesn’t fall in line with American law. It can be a major security issue, and you should avoid these sites.
Are Bitcoin poker sites safe? All zynga games.
Again, many of these sites use cryptocurrency to get around American law. Just because a site accepts a deposit doesn’t mean that it’s a legal, regulated site. Review this article for websites that are legal in the US, including sweepstakes poker sites like Global Poker.
Do I need to worry about viruses from poker sites?
Regulated online poker sites offer secure, safe environments. They meet rigorous licensing, technology and regulatory requirements to stay in business and to keep

There are quite a few limitations on gambling in Florida, but it is still known for its ability to generate some of the best poker players in the world.
Whether players honed their skills in the live poker rooms across the state or at the online poker tables from the late 1990s through today, Florida is the birthplace of many of the game’s greatest.
Floridians continue to seek online poker options in addition to the live poker tables. There are options for those players, online poker sites that welcome players from the US.
The complex Florida gambling laws mean that fully legalized and regulated online poker is a long ways off but there are some positive signs. Much of the issues stem from the restrictive compacts that have been made with the Seminole tribes. There are essentially two ways that issue might be resolved in the future: 1. Getting approval from the Seminole. 2. Going around the tribe.
The move toward online poker and casino games will likely have to originate with tribal leaders and make their way into the next compact. However, negotiations for the updated compact in 2019 went off the rails in the middle of the year when tribal leaders and state lawmakers ended talks. The standoff has led to some legislators mulling gambling proposals without consideration for the Seminoles.
Real online poker app. Either way, it will likely be a very long road to state-regulated online poker. Thus, our options for Floridians remain the best in the business. Most Recent Online Poker Happenings in Florida
The Seminoles broached the subject of internet gaming and sports betting during negotiations in April and May 2019. There were many ideas on the table, such as 24-hour cardroom availability, a reduction on slot machine taxes by 10%, and the ability to add craps and roulette to the table games in their casinos.
And there was online poker, along with internet casino games. The Seminoles wanted the exclusive right to partner with an online gaming provider and offer the games for all players in Florida.
Governor DeSantis specifically opposed internet gaming. Even if talks hadn’t broken down over other issues, it is likely that online poker and casino games would’ve been eliminated from the new compact anyway.Gambling in Florida
From the time Europeans first settled onto Florida land, gambling has been a part of the culture. Gambling was legalized in the 1900s, but debates raged over the past century and continue today in regards to how gambling laws should work in Florida.
Lawmakers have successfully respected the wishes of many Floridians by not allowing for new land-based casinos around the state. Restricting them to Seminole lands and tribal management has kept the number of casinos limited and maintains a status quo against which few want to push.
There was a strong push in 1958 to authorize commercial casino gambling, but then-Governor LeRoy Collins intervened to stop it. There have been smaller movements since then, but the people have yet to express widespread support for more casinos. Regardless, the Seminole compact does not allow it.
The laws of Florida do include a definition of gambling and skill games for the record.
Poker is legal at racinos (racetracks with casino games) and Seminole-run land-based casinos throughout the state. Pari-mutuel betting on horse and dog racing and jai alai is allowed, as are small social games, charitable gambling, and the state-regulated lottery. What Forms of Gambling Are Legal in Florida?Type/CodeSummaryState Code Section(s)XLVI.849; XXXIII.550-551Definition of GamblingGambling: Whoever plays or engages in any game at cards, keno, roulette, faro or other game of chance, at any place, by any device whatever, for money or other thing of value, shall be guilty.Definition of Game of SkillGame of skill: A game in which the player does not control the outcome of the game through skill or a game where the outcome is determined by factors not visible, known, or predictable to the player.Online Poker/GamblingThere is no regulated online poker or gaming in Florida. There is no state-sanctioned online poker or online gambling that is regulated within the state of Florida.
There have been attempts – few and far between – to legalize online poker in Florida. The most notable was in 2012 when the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States encouraged it. The efforts were short-lived, however, as lawmakers couldn’t even agree to legalize lottery ticket sales online.
The issue of internet gaming only came up again in 2019 when the Seminole Tribe of Florida was negotiating its latest compact. Everything from sports betting to online poker was on the table, but the Seminoles wanted exclusive rights to the games. Negotiations with Governor Ron DeSantis fell apart, however, and nothing was left on the table.
The question remains: Can you play online poker while in Florida? The answer is yes.
Players have access to several online poker sites regulated in the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The operators are very reputable and have been in the online poker business for many years, many of them nearing two decades in operation.
The recommended sites not only accept most US-based players but specifically note that Florida is a safe state. There will be no problems signing up for a new online account and making a deposit to play real-money online poker.
Important: Nothing on this page is to be considered legal advice. Please consult with a gambling attorney with serious and specific concerns about online poker.Famous Florida Poker Players
Live poker rooms at racetracks and Seminole casinos have been the launching pad for players like Jason Mercier (nearly $20 million in winnings), Michael Mizrachi (more than $17 million in winnings), and high-stakes live players like Sean Winter ($13.6 million) and Sam Soverel ($11.5 million).
Online poker has always been quite popular in the Sunshine State, too. When people live in a state that spans 65,757 square miles, it’s not always easy to find a live poker room. Online poker was the game of choice for tens of thousands of players in Florida, and it remains so today.
For Mercier’s live poker winnings mentioned above, he also had millions in online winnings, and he was a sponsored poker pro for PokerStars for almost 10 years. Mizrachi similarly had a great deal of online poker success to go with his live scores, and he represented numerous poker sites through the years.
But one of the most popular online poker players in the world was Daniel Cates, otherwise known as Jungleman. His presence at the high-stakes online games on sites like Full Tilt Poker drew railbirds from around the world. He even won $7 million online just from mid-2009 to mid-2011. He was one of the biggest online poker winners of all time, which pairs well with his $7.3 million in live earnings.
As of 2021, these were the top-ranked live poker players, according to the Hendon Mob database:
1. Jason Mercier ($19.6 million)
2. Michael Mizrachi ($17.1 million)
3. Sean Winter ($13.6 million)
4. Sam Soverel ($11.5 million)
5. John Racener ($10 million)
6. Robert Mizrachi ($7.5 million)
7. Daniel Cates ($7.3 million)
8. Jonathan Little ($7 million)
9. Barry Hutter ($5.8 million)
10. Noah Schwartz ($5.8 million)What was Amendment 3?
The poker community was dragged into the fight over Amendment 3 in Florida during the November 2018 election. As the election approached, the then-functional Poker Alliance took a stand against the proposal and asked big names in poker like Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho, and Mike Matusow to do the same.
Amendment 3 was set up to give voters the exclusive right to approve or deny all decisions related to casino gambling, “any of the types of games typically found in casinos and that are within the definition of Class III gaming in the Federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).” It then specified blackjack, roulette, craps, keno, slot machines, electronic and simulated games, video lottery machines, internet sweepstakes, and “any other form of electronic or electromechanical facsimiles of any game of chance, slot machine, or casino-style game.”
Online poker – all internet gaming, actually – is included in Amendment 3.
The Poker Alliance asserted that the bill would “virtually eliminate” the expansion of live poker, make it impossible for poker rooms to add new games or update their rules, and make online poker and sports betting legislation a “huge longshot.”
However, the voters of Florida passed Amendment 3 by a wide margin, as more than 71% of them voted in its support.
The motivation for the elaborate opposition to Amendment 3 by Poker Alliance was unclear, as it was the only community-driven campaign it waged after PokerCentral purchased the former nonprofit lobbying organization. And not long after that failed campaign in Florida, Poker Alliance stopped doing anything for the poker community altogether. Most Recent Developments in 2021
The unresolved issues between the Seminoles and the state over its gambling compact is a wild card.
One of the most recent developments that increased tension between the two factions was when a federal judge found that the card games offered by Florida pari-mutuels violated the exclusivity agreement between Florida and the Seminoles. Since the Seminoles have been paying $350 million per year for that exclusive right that they feel is no longer exclusive, the Seminoles to withhold the 2019 and future payments.
Meanwhile, lawmakers believe that the lack of payments by the Seminoles voids all exclusivity agreements regarding gaming. As of October 2019, several of them want to take advantage of that by increasing betting limits on table games at racetracks and authorizing them to offer sports betting and fantasy sports (DFS) contests.
This could be a positive sign for online gaming, including online poker, if sports betting is able to move ahead without interference from the Seminoles.Online Poker Status in Florida

For a great training video on poker combinatorics, check out this poker combos video.
Ever since the early days of Texas holdem poker, players have attempted to analyze and organize the 169 possible two card starting hands found in the game. One traditional way of doing so involves running thousands upon thousands of simulations in which a particular holdem hand is played out against nine random opponent hands. Players combine their hole cards with the community cards to make the best possible 5-card poker hand. Both hole cards, one hole card or no hole cards (play the board) can be used to comprise a hand. Basic Texas Holdem Poker Rules. Texas Hold’em Poker is the most popular poker variation in the world and the one you’ve most likely seen played on TV.
’Combinatorics’ is a big word for something that isn’t all that difficult to understand. In this article, I will go through the basics of working out hand combinations or ’combos’ in poker and give a few examples to help show you why it is useful.
Oh, and as you’ve probably noticed, ’combinatorics’, ’hand combinations’ and ’combos’ refer to the same thing in poker. Don’t get confused if I use them interchangeably, which I probably will. What is poker combinatorics?
Poker combinatorics involves working out how many different combinations of a hand exists in a certain situation.
For example:
*How many ways can you be dealt AK?
*How many ways can you be dealt 66?
*How combinations of T9 are there on a flop of T32?
*How many straight draw combinations are there on a flop of AT7?
Using combinatorics, you will be able to quickly work these numbers out and use them to help you make better decisions based on the probability of certain hands showing up.Poker starting hand combinations basics.
*Any two (e.g. AK or T5) = 16 combinations
*Pairs (e.g. AA or TT) = 6 combinations
If you were take a hand like AK and write down all the possible ways you could be dealt this hand from a deck of cards (e.g. A K, A K, A K etc.), you would find that there are 16 possible combinations.See all 16 AK hand combinations:
Similarly, if you wrote down all the possible combinations of a pocket pair like JJ (e.g. JJ, JJ, JJ etc.), you would find that there are just 6 possible combinations.See all 6 JJ pocket pair hand combinations:
So as you can see from these basic starting hand combinations in poker, you’re almost 3 times as likely to be dealt a non-paired hand like AK than a paired hand. That’s pretty interesting in itself, but you can do a lot more than this…Note: two extra starting hand combinations.
As mentioned above, there are 16 combinations of any two non-paired cards. Therefore, this includes the suited and non-suited combinations.
Here are 2 extra stats that give you the total combinations of any two suited and any two unsuited cards specifically.
*Any two (e.g. AK or 67 suited or unsuited) = 16 combinations
*Any two suited (AKs) = 4 combinations
*Any two unsuited (AKo) = 12 combinations
*Pairs (e.g. AA or TT) = 6 combinations
You won’t use these extra starting hand combinations nearly as much as the first two, but I thought I would include them here for your interest anyway.
It’s easy to work out how there are only 4 suited combinations of any two cards, as there are only 4 suits in the deck. If you then take these 4 suited hands away from the total of 16 ’any two’ hand combinations (which include both the suited and unsuited hands), you are left with the 12 unsuited hand combinations. Easy.
Fact: There are 1,326 combinations of starting hands in Texas Hold’em in total.Working out hand combinations using ’known’ cards.
Let’s say we hold KQ on a flop of KT4 (suits do not matter). How many possible combinations of AK and TT are out there that our opponent could hold?Unpaired hands (e.g. AK).
How to work out the total number of hand combinations for an unpaired hand like AK, JT, or Q3.
Method: Multiply the numbers of available cards for each of the two cards.
Word equation: (1st card available cards) x (2nd card available cards) = total combinationsExample.
If we hold KQ on a KT4 flop, how many possible combinations of AK are there?
There are 4 Aces and 2 Kings (4 minus the 1 on the flop and minus the 1 in our hand) available in the deck.
C = 8, so there are 8 possible combinations of AK if we hold KQ on a flop of KT4.Paired hands (e.g. TT).
How to work out the total number of hand combinations for an paired hand like AA, JJ, or 44.
Method: Multiply the number of available cards by the number of available cards minus 1, then divide by two.
Word equation: [(available cards) x (available cards - 1)] / 2 = total combinationsExample.
How many combinations of TT are there on a KT4 flop?
Well, on a flop of KT4 here are 3 Tens left in the deck, so…
C = 3, which means there are 3 possible combinations of TT.Thoughts on working out hand combinations.
Working out the number of possible combinations of unpaired hands is easy enough; just multiply the two numbers of available cards. How Many Different Hands Are Possible In Texas Holdem Against
Working out the combinations for paired hands looks awkward at first, but it’s not that tricky when you actually try it out. Just find the number of available cards, take 1 away from that number, multiply those two numbers together then half it.
Note: You’ll also notice that this method works for working out the preflop starting hand combinations mentioned earlier on. For example, if you’re working out the number of AK combinations as a starting hand, there are 4 Aces and 4 Kings available, so 4 x 4 = 16 AK combinations. Why is combinatorics useful?
Because by working out hand combinations, you can find out more useful information about a player’s range.
For example, let’s say that an opponents 3betting range is roughly 2%. This means that they are only ever 3betting AA, KK and AK. That’s a very tight range indeed.
Now, just looking at this range of hands you might think that whenever this player 3bets, they are more likely to have a big pocket pair. After all, both AA and KK are in his range, compared to the single unpaired hand of AK. So without considering combinatorics for this 2% range, you might think that the probability break-up of each hand looks like this:
*AA = 33%
*KK = 33%
*AK = 33%
…with the two big pairs making up the majority of this 2% 3betting range (roughly 66% in total).
However, let’s look at these hands by comparing the total combinations for each hand:
*AA = 6 combinations (21.5%)
*KK = 6 combinations (21.5%)
*AK = 16 combinations (57%)
So out of 28 possible combinations made up from AA, KK and AK, 16 of them come from AK. This means that when our opponent 3bets, the majority of the time he is holding AK and not a big pocket pair.
Now obviously if you’re holding a hand like 75o this is hardly comforting. However, the point is that it’s useful to realise that the probabilities of certain types of hands in a range will vary. Just because a player either has AA or AK, it doesn’t mean that they’re both equally probable holdings - they will actually be holding AK more often than not.
Analogy: If a fruit bowl contains 100 oranges, 1 apple, 1 pear and 1 grape, there is a decent range of fruit (the ’hands’). However, the the fruits are heavily weighted toward oranges, so there is a greater chance of randomly selecting an orange from the bowl than any of the 3 other possible fruits (’AK’ in the example above).
This same method applies when you’re trying to work out the probabilities of a range of possible made hands on the flop by looking at the number of hand combinations. For example, if your opponent could have either a straight draw or a set, which of the two is more likely?Poker combinatorics example hand.
You have 66 on a board of A J 6 8 2. The pot is $12 and you bet $10. Your opponent moves all in for $60, which means you have to call $50 to win a pot of $82.
You are confident that your opponent either has a set or two pair with an Ace (i.e. AJ, A8, A6 or A2). Don’t worry about how you know this or why you’re in this situation, you just are.
According to pot odds, you need to have at least a 38% chance of having the best hand to call. You can now use combinatorics / hand combinations here to help you decide whether or not to call.Poker combinatorics example hand solution.
First of all, let’s split our opponent’s hands in to hands you beat and hands you don’t beat, working out the number of hand combinations for each.
Adding them all up…
Seeing as you have the best hand 79% of the time (or 79% ’equity’) and the pot odds indicate that you only need to have the best hand 38% of the time, it makes it +EV to call. How Many Different Hands Are Possible In Texas Holdem Rules
So whereas you might have initially thought that the number of hands we beat compared to the number of hands we didn’t beat was close to 50/50 (making it likely -EV to call), after looking at the hand combinations we can see that it is actually much closer to 80/20, making calling a profitable play.
Being able to assign a range to your opponent is good, but understanding the different likelihoods of the hands within that range is better.Poker combinatorics conclusion. How Many Different Hands Are Possible In Texas Holdem
Working out hand combinations in poker is simple:
*Unpaired hands: Multiply the number of available cards. (e.g. AK on an AT2 flop = [3 x 4] = 12 AK combinations).
*Paired hands: Find the number of available cards. Take 1 away from that number, multiply those two numbers together and divide by 2. (e.g. TT on a AT2 flop = [3 x 2] / 2 = 3 TT combinations).
By working out hand combinations you can gain a much better understanding about opponent’s hand ranges. If you only ever deal in ranges and ignore hand combinations, you are missing out on useful information.

It’s unrealistic to think that you’re going to work out all these hand combinations on the fly whilst you’re sat at the table. However, a lot of value comes from simply familiarizing yourself with the varying probabilities of different types of hands for future reference. Real online poker for money.
For example, after a while you’ll start to realise that straight draws are a lot more common than you think, and that flush draws are far less common than you think. Insights like these will help you when you’re faced with similar decisions in the future.

Face Down Blackjack

Join a Table You’ll join the blackjack table. Once all players are ready, each one is dealt two cards face up. The dealer also receives two cards - one of them face up, the other face down. Of the 52 cards in the deck, four are aces and 16 others (kings, queens, jacks, and tens) are worth 10 points each. The dealer has a blackjack if one card is an ace and the other is worth 10 points; it doesn’t matter which card is face up and which card is face down. How many different blackjack hands are there?
A double down in blackjack is when you double your original wager after receiving your first two cards. Once the cards have been dealt, you will be given the option to double down if the rules permit. If you win this double down bet you will collect double your original wager. Double Down Blackjack Rules. Dealers are trained for many hours to perfect the pitching motion which lands the player’s cards face down right in front of them on the blackjack table. As we stated above, Pitch Blackjack is also a synonym for double-deck or single-deck blackjack. There are never more than two decks used in. Here are the procedures of face down games in Black Jack: In a Face-down game, you can pick up the cards as soon as the dealer starts sliding or pitching them your way. If you have a Black Jack, place your cards face-up on the table. The same procedure follows as in a Face-up game.on
It’s easy enough to find how to play blackjack articles on the internet, but a lot of them ignore the subtler aspects of the blackjack card game’s rules.

This post is my attempt to correct that and focus more on the rules of play than the basic stuff.
At the same time, this post should be more useful for the blackjack beginner because it covers rules that other pages don’t cover.A Broad Overview of Blackjack Card Game Rules
You play real money blackjack with the same standard 52-card deck that’s used for poker or other casino card games like baccarat. The joker is never used, and there are no wild cards in blackjack. Most casinos use multiple decks of cards, usually 2, 6, or 8 decks.Face Down Blackjack Youtube
The dealer uses a blank card to signify when it’s time to reshuffle the decks, and if the casino is using more than 4 decks, the cards are dealt from a box called a “shoe.” In single deck or 2-deck games, the cards are dealt by hand.
The object of the game is to get a score as close as you can to 21 without going over. You have one opponent – the dealer. How the play of the other gamblers goes has nothing to do with your own outcomes.
Poker online real money. The cards have point values based on their rankings. In other words, the 2 of spades is worth 2 points, the 3 of hearts is worth 3 points, and so on. The suit doesn’t affect the point scores for the cards.
Face cards – the jack, queen, and king – are each worth 10 points.
And an ace counts as 1 or as 11, depending on which is better for the player.Blackjack Betting Rules (Cash and Chips) – How to Bet on the Card Game
Before you can play, you must buy into the game. This usually means exchanging cash for chips at the blackjack table, but in many casinos, you can play cash, too. Usually you only play cash once when you first sit down at the table, though – as soon as that first hand is dealt, the dealer will want to convert your cash to chips.
It’s important that you don’t hand your cash directly to the dealer. Lay it on the table. The dealer doesn’t want to be accused of stealing your money, which is why they have such specific procedures in terms of counting your money on the table in such a way that it can be filmed by the camera above – the “eye in the sky.”
You’ll find a placard at the blackjack table which lists the betting limits. You’ll rarely find a casino offering a minimum bet of less than $5 per hand, and $500 per hand is often the maximum bet. High roller rooms often have higher betting maximums, but it’s important to know the minimum before sitting down.
You don’t want to buy in for $300 at a $100 minimum blackjack table and wind up with only 3 chips to play with. The Rules for Dealing Blackjack – How to Deal the Card Game
The cards get shuffled periodically at most casinos, usually when the deck has been dealt down to the cut card. In some casinos, though, a continuous shuffling machine is used. In this case, you can forget all about counting cards. The Dealer Has Specific Rules for How to Deal
She waits until everyone has placed their bets and the decks have been shuffled. Then she gives each player a card, one at a time, clockwise around the table. She also gives herself a card, face-up.
The players’ cards are dealt face-up in a game dealt from a shoe, but if the game is being dealt from the dealer’s hand, the cards are dealt face-down.
After everyone gets their first card, the dealer gives each player a 2nd card. The players either get both cards face-up or face-down, depending on the nature of the game. But the dealer’s 2nd card is always face-down.
That’s how the initial deal goes.
After that, it’s time to make game-play decisions.Blackjack Rules for Naturals
The first thing that happens after the deal in this card game is the adjudication of “naturals”, AKA “blackjacks.”
A blackjack, or natural, is a 2-card hand worth 21 points. To get a blackjack, you must have an ace, but you must also have a 10-point card. It doesn’t matter if it’s a face card or a 10, it still counts as a blackjack if it’s 2 cards that make up a total of 21.
If a player gets a natural and the dealer doesn’t, the player immediately gets paid off at 3 to 2 odds. In other words, if you bet $5 on the hand, you win $7.50 immediately. That’s it for the hand.Note:
Some versions of blackjack only pay off at 6 to 5 odds. You should avoid such games, as they give the house a much higher mathematical edge than the standard version of the card game.
If a dealer gets a natural and the player doesn’t, the player immediately loses. But you only lose the bet. You don’t pay a penalty or anything like that.
If both the player and the dealer get a natural, the result is a push. The player gets to keep his bet, but he doesn’t get any winnings. A push is basically the same thing as a tie.
A natural only happens about once out of every 20 of your hands, so it’s common enough that you’ll see it often.
But most of the time, you’ll still have to play your hand.Blackjack Gameplay Rules – How to Play the Card Game
So far there hasn’t been much gameplay to discuss – just betting, shuffling, dealing, and checking for naturals.
Once all that’s done, the gameplay begins, and that’s where the rules for this card game get interesting.
The player to the dealer’s left acts first, and play proceeds around the table. The dealer acts last.
The 2 basic moves in the game are to stand or to hit. To stand means to decline any additional cards and take the total you have to the showdown. To hit means to accept another card from the dealer to increase your total score.
You have no limit to the number of additional cards you can take, but you can also decide to stand at any time.
But, if at any time, you hit and get an additional card that makes your total 22 or higher, you immediately lose and the dealer collects your bet.
This is, in fact, where the house gets its edge. Even if the dealer also busts, you’re already out of the game if you’ve busted. What should be a tie in a “fair” game is a loss for the player.
But, if you play with basic blackjack strategy, the house edge for blackjack is one of the lowest in the casino. It’s less than 1% depending on the conditions of the game.
Pokertracker 4 hand history folder. Also, this is a good time to point out the importance of an ace. Since it can count as 1 or 11, you have more flexibility in how aggressively you play your hand. That’s why your total number of points when you have an ace in your hand is called a “soft” total. It’s impossible to bust a soft total because you can always decide to count the ace as 1 instead of 11.The Card Game Rules for Other Player Options
Hitting and standing aren’t your only options. You can also do the following with your hand:
*Double Down – This means to double the size of your bet and take one – and only one – additional card.
*Take Insurance – This option is only available when the dealer has an ace. Insurance is a side bet that the dealer has a 10 for her face-down card, giving her a blackjack. The size of the insurance bet is half that of your initial bet, and it pays off at 2 to 1. Of course, if you win the insurance bet, you lose your main bet, breaking even for the hand. That’s why it’s called “insurance.” You’re insuring your hand against the possibility that the dealer has a blackjack.
*Split – When you have 2 cards of the same rank, like aces or 8s, for example, you can put up an extra bet and play 2 hands. The starting card for each of the 2 hands comes from your hand, and you get a new card on top of each of them. You play each hand independently from that point forward.Rules for How the Dealer Plays Her Hand
Once all the players have busted (gotten a total of 22+) or stood, the dealer plays her hand. The dealer doesn’t get to exercise judgment when playing her hand; she must play according to the house rules for the dealer.
This means the dealer must hit any total of 16 or lower. It also means the dealer must stand on a total of 17.
There’s one wrinkle, though – a soft total of 17 might force the dealer to stand, or it might force the dealer to hit. If the dealer must stand on a soft 17, that’s an advantage for the player. If the dealer hits a soft 17, the casino has a higher edge than in the other version of the game.
Once the dealer stands, the bets are paid off. If the dealer has a higher total than the player, the dealer wins the player’s bet. If the player has a higher total than the dealer, the dealer pays the bet off at even money.
If the dealer and the player stand on the same total, the bet is considered a push. The player gets his bet back, but he gets no winnings on top of it.Conclusion
That’s my best, most complete, and simplest explanation for blackjack card game rules.

Online casinos can be fun–not to mention lucrative for those who get lucky. New players can also take their pick from a range of offers, bonuses and promotions that are designed to tempt them into signing up on a specific site, rather than with a rival in the industry. However, these offers can sometimes seem as though they are too good to be true. And when this is the case, sometimes it is because they are too good to be true! All casino offers and promotions come with terms and conditions attached. Buried in the small print, casino players can find out about something called wagering requirements. But what are they?
It’s your chance to get acquainted with the casino. FAQ How do online casino wagering requirements work? Let’s take a look at Ladbrokes wagering requirements for the casino bonus explained as an example. You bet for 10 EUR, get 50 EUR, and wager the gift with x40 wager, so you have to play for 50 x 40 = 2000 EUR then.Online Casino WageringSo What Are Online Casino Wagering Requirements?
Wagering requirements are attached to most bonuses and promotions offered by online casinos. Often, these sites add funds to players’ accounts in the form of bonus money. This bonus cash, though, cannot be withdrawn as hard cash until the wagering requirements are met. Wagering requirements means the bonus money has to be rolled over a certain number of times before it can be withdrawn. So it is not as easy as playing with the bonus money and turning it into cash that can be withdrawn.
Wagering requirements are usually displayed as a number with an x sign behind it. For example, 10x would be a typical wagering requirement. What this means is that if $10 is awarded in bonus money, the player must make $100 worth of bets with the cash in order to unlock it.
*A low wagering casino bonus is one that usually requires you to play through your bonus funds or bonus winnings less than 25 times (ideally once). This must be done before you can withdraw these bonus funds. These lowest wagering requirements casinos are very popular. They can sometimes be called 1x wager requirements or low wager bonuses. But, they should not be confused with No Wagering.
*A wagering requirement is therefore an obligation to make a wager in an online casino. Most online casinos Canada have a wagering requirement you have to fulfil in order to play with a bonus. A normal wagering requirement is 30x, which means you have to play through your bonus 30 times before you can withdraw your winnings. Why Do Online Casinos Use Wagering Requirements?
Online casinos use bonuses to attract new users, but they have to protect themselves too. If they did not include something like a wagering requirement, it would be far too easy for new players to exploit these promotions. Some people may feel wagering requirements are not fair, but there has to be a balance. It is in the interests of the online casino to make as much money as possible, after all. So any bonus they offer should be assessed by checking the terms and conditions for the wagering requirements that come as part of the deal. If online casinos did not include wagering requirements, they would not be able to offer promotions that are as generous as those that can be seen nowadays. As an example, many online casino sites now offer a no deposit bonus. What this means is players can start gambling for real money without even needing to deposit any cash into their new account.
888 Casino Wagering RequirementsWagering Requirements – What You Need To Know
The basics of wagering requirements are just the start. Players need to understand the complete offer before deciding whether or not they want to take the bonus cash on offer. As an example, certain games at the online casino might not contribute 100 per cent to the wagering requirements. Slots usually do provide the full 100 per cent to this deal, but it is usually the case that table games like roulette and blackjack do not. Essentially, this means it can be very hard to turn bonus money into real cash as a result of the terms and conditions behind them. Some deals may not be worth taking as a result. Online casino bonuses have to be considered a good thing overall, but there is a significant downside through the use of wagering requirements. Always check the terms and conditions!

If you are one of the many online poker players not using a Heads-Up Display (HUD), then you are quickly dipping into the minority. Unfortunately, the reason that many players do not have an HUD or track their hand histories is because they simply can’t justify spending the $65 to $150 it takes to buy a program like Holdem Manager or PokerTracker. Now, through the help of a lone programmer, an open-source program called the FreePokerDB has made its way across the internet and allows a user to track critical stats, winnings, and losses and even have an on-table HUD, all for free.FreePokerDB (FPDB) Full Review
First, it should be noted that installation of the FreePokerDB isn’t something that is going to be accomplished through an easy double-clicking experience. Again, this is an open-source, free program, so you will have to put some extra effort into setting it up. You’ll need to download MySQL (free) and install that first. Then, you’ll have to download the special installer file and after it’s done, reboot your computer. You’ll unzip the FreePoker Database files to your computer and run the program. Chances are you’re still not done, as you’ll probably have to create the database manually in a MySQL editor. Once you’ve finished that, you’ll need to get into the program and create tables for it. By then, you will breathe a sigh of relief, as you have accomplished the setup process. In order to get the graphing feature to work, you’ll need to download two small programs, install them, and then restart the application. Past that, much of the program runs itself. The auto-import feature only requires the user to enter the folder where hand histories are saved for PokerStars, for example. For now, much of the program is in development (marked “todo” within the program’s menu), but you’ll find a straightforward stats program and functional Heads-Up Display (HUD). The ’Bulk Import’ option allows a user to import hand history files en masse and get them into the database in fairly quick order. Once that’s done, you can check out the stats from within the ’Viewers’ dropdown menu. The ’Player Stats Tabulated View’ brings up stats sorted by buy-in level and gives a bevy of standard statistics like VPIP, PFR, BB/100, and more. There is no way to customize the report at this time. The HUD is overlaid on your poker table, but requires you to move it around in order for it to appear next to the appropriate villain at the table. There are six stats in the HUD by default and some ability to tweak these in the HUD’s XML configuration file exists. The number of stats available is limited at this time, but as development moves forward on this open-source project, more should be created in later versions. As it stands now, the HUD is legible, functional, and exactly what you would expect from a freeware program. Here is a view of the HUD:
FPDB also has a very nice ’Table Viewer’ tab that will allow you to check out just about every statistic you can imagine on your opponents. The list is laid out in an easy-to-read format, so at a quick glance, you will be able to find out how many hands a player has in the database and how passive or aggressive they are. You can then use this information against your opponent. The Table Viewer looks like this:
Unlike its paid competitors, FreePokerDB supports less frequently played games online including Stud and Draw. While it also supports Hold’em and Omaha, this is an ideal piece of software if you like to play many different forms of poker. The FreePokerDB v0.22 program is a fantastic way for a micro-stakes player to get into the world of hand history tracking and take advantage of an HUD at absolutely no cost. If one has the patience to overcome the lengthy installation and debugging process, the reward is a functional program that can save users a nice chunk of change over rival programs like Holdem Manager and PokerTracker.Member Reviewsmatheuspaterno’s Review of FreePokerDB (FPDB)July, 21, 2016
I have a question, I have been using fpdb on betonline for a long time. But, they updated the system and now the hands are saved in an online database, it is not saved n my hard drive anymore. Is there a way I can still make fpdb work? Thanks!ricadoforti’s Review of FreePokerDB (FPDB)Pokertracker 4 Hand History Folder FreeNovember, 18, 2015Pokertracker 4 Hand History Folders

Real Money Mobile Poker Apps. Mobile poker was merely a gleam in a developer’s eye two decades ago, but it is now a necessity for any online poker operator. They all have apps that are compatible with. 888 Poker NJ promises the slickest poker app in the business for Android devices available for download from the 888 Poker website. All of its poker games are there, including cash, tournaments, Sit and Gos.
The current online poker apps for NJ all do their best to mimic the desktop versions of NJ’s regulated online poker rooms. For the most part they succeed in this quite well, though the selection of available tables and tournaments is far more limited.
Playing on multiple tables simultaneously is now an option, but only on one poker application. The touch interface is perfectly useful for poker play, but if you intend to use any kind of chat options you will miss having a keyboard.

Although all six apps allow for free money play, the only one that seems to get “fun” games off on a somewhat consistent basis is PokerStars. And even then, players will have much better luck finding a free play cash game than a tournament or sit & go.
As far as real-money games, No Limit Hold’em games are the bread and butter of all NJ online poker mobile apps. Other games are offered, but the selection is even sparser than it is on desktop clients.
PokerStars is the only app that offers Pot Limit Omaha games. Borgata/Party offers limit games but they rarely get off.
Other mixed games like Omaha Hi/Lo and Stud games do not appear to be fully integrated into NJ-based online poker apps.Best mobile poker app for NJ players
Prior to PokerStars’ official launch in New Jersey, WSOP.com held a narrow edge over Borgata Poker for the state’s best online poker app. Now, it’s the PokerStars NJ app that wins out, by more than a little.
PokerStars has integrated its online casino and poker offerings into one comprehensive application, with poker taking center stage.
Not only does the app provide the most robust selection of account management features – which includes access to the cashier, VIP Store, and settings page – but the PokerStars NJ mobile app simply feels more polished than what the competition has to offer.
It’s also the only app that has integrated multi-tabling, non-hold’em variants and lottery sit & go’s. And thanks to the large lobby icons and sliders, finding a game of preference rarely takes more than a couple of swipes.
As for gameplay, PokerStars NJ comes closer than any other NJ operator to simulating the desktop experience on mobile. It also usually features the most traffic for non-guaranteed tournaments.
PokerStars is partnered with Resorts Casino in New Jersey.NJ mobile poker app snapshotsWSOP poker app overviewOnline Poker Free
Of all the poker apps this was probably the second most fun to play on, but mainly because WSOP/888 possesses inherent advantages in liquidity compared to Borgata/Party. This more than makes up for the missing features in the software, of which there are a few notables.
While mobile poker functions identically between 888 and WSOP, the WSOP app has the better tournament selection of the two (although this could vary from day to day). No complaints about the tournament lobby — it may not be the prettiest layout but it’s more than efficient.
On the other hand:
While the cash game and sit-and-go sliders work fine, it would have been nice if WSOP incorporated functionality that allowed players to see these lobbies. As is, players have to just hope a game of their preference is running.
This is a pretty severe oversight and may cause some players to run away in frustration.888 Poker app overview
The nearly identical software that 888 Poker and WSOP use is a little less functional than the apps for Borgata and Party.
Rather than seeing the tables by name (and the number of people there) you have to just specify the type of game you are looking for with a number of sliding bars. This makes getting a good cash game tricky at times. Also, 888 and WSOP do not have any kind of fast-fold game options on mobile.
Though there is a wide range of Sit & Go options, you may have trouble finding one that is viable. As with the cash games, you must choose parameters and then hope there is someone else interested, and many of the sit-and-go tournaments that are more popular on the site don’t seem to be available on the app.
Regular multi-table tournaments, on the other hand, work perfectly and are excellent.PartyPoker app overview
The app built for the mobile Party Poker room is the same program as Borgata. Since they share liquidity across the board, players will have a similar experience with both programs.
PartyPoker recently revamped its interface, and the result was a better user experience. Party’s app is solid, and we’d recommend that players who wrote it off when it was plagued by connection errors (especially on iOS) give it another go.
Be warned, however: Players who aren’t a fan of hold’em cash games or multi-table tournaments won’t find much to their liking. This is more a byproduct of the network’s low liquidity than the app itself.
If anything, the app supports a fair number of game formats, including fast-fold and fixed limit. Too bad its dedicated sub-menus and advanced filtering options are virtually wasted.Borgata Poker app overview
As with the NJ online casinos, the choice between Borgata and Party will mostly come down to which rewards program you are already in.
At one point, registering for tournaments was unreliable, but it appears the operator has ironed out most of the kinks.
More good news: Borgata’s numerous daily freeroll tournaments now appear on the mobile tournament list. This will come as a pleasant surprise to those who may have disregarded the app when they couldn’t sign up for the freebies.PokerStars App Overview
As solid as other New Jersey poker apps have become, the PokerStars NJ mobile offering still blows them out of the water. That’s not to say the app is a model of perfection, as server lag and unresponsiveness are still minor issues. But in terms of overall game selection, account management, design and aesthetics, PokerStars NJ wins out.
Currently, the app offers cash games (no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha), tournaments, sit-and-go’s and the widely popular (and mobile friendly) Spin & Go’s. Zoom Poker is listed in the app lobby, but games tend to only run when there is a “play [x] amount of cash game hands” promotion running.
The PokerStars’ app features a smart feature that recommends games to players based on their playing tendencies. Players can easily bypass these recommendations by clicking on the large icons and using the sliders and filters instead. We did find it a bit odd that players aren’t permitted to specify an exact buy-in for cash games, but otherwise, the ring game sliders fit the bill.
Tournament registration was a breeze. The app lists buy-in, prize pool, format and date info for multiple tournaments right from the main tournament page. All players have to do is find something they like and click “Register.” If the tournament lobby proves too cluttered (which is often the case during the evening) players can weed out tournaments via nine different filters.
Players can also register for and participate in freerolls from their mobile devices.Pala Poker App Overview
Pala Poker’s mobile application is available for Android and iOS devices. The Apple version is available from the App Store, while the Android version can be accessed by following the download link on Pala’s website under the “download & play” page.
At around 80 megabytes, the iOS version is fairly bulky and takes a few moments to download, depending on internet connection speed. The Android version is around half that size.
Expect to wait between 10 and 20 seconds for the application to load, with the iOS version being slightly faster than the Android one.
Game offering is identical to what can be found on the desktop application: cash games include no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha, with stakes ranging from $0.10/$0.25 to $1/$2. Unfortunately, there are no micro or high-limit stakes. Six-handed SnG tournaments are available, with buy-ins from $5 to $20.
There are also a number of scheduled multi-table tournaments available on any given day, most with a guaranteed prize pool between $50 and $250 and buy-ins in the $0.50 to $10 range. A few freerolls are available, too. Almost all tournaments start at 4 p.m. or later.
Overall, the application is responsive, functional, and does not lag behind its desktop counterpart.

*Pala PokerFree play poker vs. real money poker
Real money online poker has been around New Jersey since 2013. Most licensed NJ operators brought free play money online poker to the market with it. In some cases, free play money online poker has been around a lot longer.
Free play money poker games do offer a way to learn the game without risk. However, few people take it seriously, so gameplay is often a poor simulation of the real thing.
So much so that real money micro-stakes may be a better place to learn, particularly if players plan to move up to real money stakes eventually.
Play money poker sites are often linked to social media. Furthermore, they offer player loyalty programs where players might be able to earn something while they play.
So, if you want to play poker to earn, you should hit the real-money games instead and keep play-money poker around just for fun.Is real money poker legal in NJ?
Yes, real money online poker is legal in New Jersey.
It has been since Feb. 26, 2013, when a bill permitting internet gambling in the state was approved by the New Jersey Legislature and signed into law by then-Gov. Chris Christie.
Almost nine months later, the state’s first legal online poker sites were a part of the synchronized launch of online gambling in New Jersey on Nov. 21, 2013.
Online poker operators have generated an average of about $2 million in revenue annually ever since.
New Jersey signed on to an interstate compact known as the Multi-State Internet Gaming Association (MSIGA) in October 2017. This changed the law to allow NJ sites to apply for regulatory approval to share player pools with those in Delaware’s and Nevada’s legal online poker markets.
Of course, WSOP.com and 888 Poker are the only other NJ online poker operators that run sites in these other states. As a result, they were the only sites to apply.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) granted the sites the necessary approval and the first interstate games launched May 1, 2018.
WSOP.com has gone on to run a schedule of online WSOP bracelet events available in New Jersey and Nevada the past two years. How to play online poker on AndroidWSOP.com on Android
The WSOP.com Android app is available for download from the WSOP.com website.
The app promises to be optimized for on-the-go Android poker play. It is an excellent product for the one-trick, one-table No Limit Hold’em ponies.
Unfortunately, WSOP.com mobile apps only support playing one table at a time. Also, the Pot Limit Omaha games and tournaments you might find on the desktop client are not there.
Game selection functions are also more frustrating than functional. The cash game and Sit and Go sliders work, but you can’t see these lobbies, so it makes it a guessing game.
The mobile software is the same employed by 888 Poker, but the WSOP.com features the more robust better tournament selection and an efficient and easy-to-reg lobby.
The WSOP.com Android app does deliver on bringing the most prestigious name in the game to your Android device. But unfortunately, the actual desktop online poker experience is not available on WSOP.com mobile.PokerStars on Android
The PokerStars NJ Android app is among the biggest in the market at over 80MB. What you get is mobile access to the industry-leading poker software and the PokerStars brand, which is optimized for your Android device.
That means No Limit Hold’em (NLH) and Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) cash games and tournaments, Sit and Gos (SNG) and the popular Spin and Gos. There are even Zoom Poker fast-fold games, although these tend to run only sporadically.
The PokerStars NJ Android mobile app offers access to all the account management features.
Some serverlag and unresponsiveness issues remain, but these are minor problems for an Android app.
The app also includes chatfeatures, quickseating, multi-tabling and tutorials for how to optimize it for phones and tablets.
You must go to the PokerStars NJ mobile page to download and install the app. However, once that’s done, you’re in for something special.888 Poker on Android
888 Poker NJ promises the slickest poker app in the business for Android devices available for download from the 888 Poker website.
All of its poker games are there, including cash, tournaments, Sit and Gos, super turbo games and SNAP poker fast-fold. However, the app features the same frustrating game selection sliders as WSOP.com. The problem is you can’t see these lobbies and what games are running first.
Other than that, the 888 Poker NJ app does feature smooth functionality, quick deposits and real poker games with real opponents, in real-time.
It’s just not as close to the desktop client experience as others in the NJ market. How to play online poker via your iPhone / iPadPokerStars for iPhone / iPad
PokerStars NJ seems to understand the need to replicate the desktop computer experience on mobile devices as much as possible. It does that with the PokerStars iOS app available for download on the PokerStars NJ website and the Apple App Store.
It’s designed natively for iPhone or iPad devices and features almost everything you’ll find on the desktop client.
There’s a “PlayNow” button, allowing you to instantly join your favorite games, tournaments and access to about every poker game and popular PokerStars’ product.WSOP.com for iPhone / iPad
You can download the WSOP.com mobile app for iOS devices on both the WSOP.com website and the Apple App Store.
Unfortunately, the same limited functionality you find with its Android app is there on the Apple app as well.
That means No Limit Hold’em is the only game and it’s a single-table only experience. That said, there are freerolls, Sit & Gos, multi-table tournaments, cash games and even casino games available.
It provides 24/7 access to games and customer support.
Plus, the WSOP.com app is optimized for iPhone and iPad users.888 Poker for iPhone / iPad
The 888 Poker iOS app is available for download on the 888 Poker NJ website and the Apple App Store. Plus, the mobile app seems to be designedbetter for iOS devices than Android.Real Online Poker App
It’s got the full account functionality of the desktop client. Plus, Sit & Gos, multi-table tournaments, satellites, step tournaments and cash games including Hold’em Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo and Seven Card Stud Hi Lo. There’s even access to the 888 Casino games.
Plus, 888Blast poker jackpot games are there as well. How to clear online poker bonuses
The top online poker sites in New Jersey offer a variety of online poker bonuses to players. These include everything from free tournament tickets to no-deposit and deposit-match bonuses.
Most include wagering requirements that players must complete before they can withdraw the bonus funds. There is a straightforward way to meet these wageringrequirements and clear the bonus: play online poker.
Of course, the amount you must play to clear a bonus is specific to that bonus. That’s why it’s always essential to understand the terms and conditions of a bonus before you try to clear it.
You’re going to want to know how many days you have to clear the bonus, if it will be released incrementally, and if and when it expires. Plus, you’re going to want to know exactly how much poker you need to play to clear the bonus.
In most cases, players earn frequent player points (FPP) based on the amount of rake they pay on a site. Poker bonuses are cleared when certain FPP th
